Every threshold below is a published Singapore figure or a choice we make from one, and the whole table is printed under the score. The target is 75, not 100. A hundred usually means a plan tighter than it needs to be, and you have to live in this life while you fund the next one.
WHAT WE WOULD DO FIRST
Generated from your own figures, and they change as you change them. Living too thin gets flagged as readily as being short, though it never costs you points: the score cannot fall because you saved more. Carrying too much cover does cost points, because premiums are money leaving the plan. None of it is personalised financial advice. That comes from a licensed advisor in your planning circle, working from a full factfind.
Eight measures. Six always apply. The last two only apply when you have that goal, and the weights renormalise when they do not, so nothing is scored against a plan you do not have.
This is national data, not a comparison against other people using f1gures. Comparing you to households like yours is a different capability and it is not built yet.
The score never falls because you saved more. It is checked across the whole spending range, in both directions, every time this page is built.
| Measure | Weight | Full marks at | Published by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Savings rate | 16 | 20% of gross left in cash, on top of CPF.Twice the Guide's floor of 10% of income invested. | MoneySense Basic Financial Planning Guide |
| Spending | 10 | 30% to 50% of gross. The national average is 38%: S$5,931 spent against S$15,473 earned, a month, on average. Spending less than the band never costs you points. It is flagged, because a plan that tight is not a life, but the score cannot fall because you saved more. | Household Expenditure Survey 2023 |
| Emergency buffer | 15 | 6 months of spending set aside. The Guide asks for 3 to 6 months, so 3 months is the pass and 6 is full marks. | MoneySense Basic Financial Planning Guide |
| Protection cover | 8 | 9 times annual income. The Guide's benchmark for death and total permanent disability. It also asks for 4 times for critical illness, which this page does not ask you for. | MoneySense Basic Financial Planning Guide |
| Premium load | 5 | At or under 15% of income. The Guide's ceiling. Reaches zero at 30%. There is no floor here on purpose: paying little only matters if the cover is short, and the cover is the row above. | MoneySense Basic Financial Planning Guide |
| Retirement runway | 14 | Today's spending funded from 65 to 85.Less S$1,680 a month of CPF LIFE. In today's dollars throughout, at a real 1.5% return, so thirty years of inflation cannot flatter it. | The f1gures projection models |
| Buying a home | 20* | The deposit and the duty in hand by your date.25% down against a 75% loan-to-value limit, plus Buyer's Stamp Duty. Halved if the repayment would breach the 30% servicing cap. | Housing loan limits |
| Children's education | 12* | Every university bill in hand by its date.S$96,000 a course, the figure the projection models already price on Features, and one bill every 3 years after the first. The measure takes the worst of them, so a second child costs something a first does not. | The f1gures projection models |

A four-room flat sits at S$630,000, a three-room at S$442,000 and a five-room at S$739,888. That is where the target price on the form starts, and you should change it to yours.
